State Senator Ken Yager visited Overton County recently, spending time on Livingston's historic courthouse square meeting with local business owners and community leaders and discussing the priorities that will shape the county's future.

A key topic of the visit was the Main Street Historic District Commission's effort to bring back legislation renewing the downtown tax rebate zone, a program that has helped fund downtown revitalization in Livingston for roughly two decades. The program contributed to the construction of Central Park, supported facade improvements throughout the business district, and continues to help preserve the character that makes downtown Livingston distinctive.

"The tax rebate zone has been one of the most effective tools this community has ever had for downtown investment, and we are grateful to Senator Yager for taking the time to hear from the business owners who have seen its results firsthand," said Zach Stephens, President & CEO of the Livingston/Overton County Chamber of Commerce. "His support for renewing that legislation matters a great deal to the future of our square."

The Senator also visited Livingston Regional Hospital to discuss the vital role a rural hospital plays in the community. In addition to providing essential healthcare services to Overton County and the surrounding area, the hospital is one of the county's largest employers, with approximately 340 staff members.

Other discussions during the visit included local literacy initiatives, pedestrian safety improvements, and the role of Standing Stone State Park as a major driver of tourism for Overton County.

The Chamber thanked Senator Yager for his visit and for his continued engagement with the businesses, institutions, and residents of Overton County.
