Overton County Government has been awarded $30,000 through the Federal Historic Preservation Fund for foundation repairs to the Overton County Courthouse, the historic building that stands at the center of Livingston's downtown square.

The grant is administered in Tennessee by the Tennessee Historical Commission and the State Historic Preservation Office, and the Livingston/Overton County Chamber of Commerce assisted Overton County Government with the application process.

"Our courthouse sits at the center of the square and at the center of how people picture this community, and preserving it protects both a working seat of county government and the anchor of our downtown," said Zach Stephens, President & CEO of the Livingston/Overton County Chamber of Commerce. "The Chamber was proud to assist with the application process, and we look forward to seeing this project come to fruition."

The courthouse continues to serve daily as the home of county offices and public business while also serving as the visual and historic centerpiece of the Historic Downtown Square, and the foundation work funded by this grant will help ensure it remains sound for the residents and visitors who gather around it for years to come.

The application was prepared by Mark Dudney of the Upper Cumberland Development District. The Chamber extends its appreciation to the Tennessee Historical Commission and the State Historic Preservation Office for their investment in Overton County, and to Mark Dudney and the Upper Cumberland Development District for preparing the application.
