The Livingston/Overton County Chamber of Commerce hosted a legislative preview Tuesday evening featuring Senator Ken Yager and Representative Ed Butler, drawing local business leaders to discuss critical issues ahead of the upcoming legislative session.

The Business After Hours event, sponsored by Main Street Livingston, focused on key priorities including extending the Courthouse Revitalization Act, addressing workforce development challenges, expanding childcare access, and securing funding for technical education programs.

Livingston is one of only six Tennessee communities receiving a tax rebate zone designation under the Courthouse Revitalization Act, which has generated millions in downtown investment. Chamber President and CEO Zach Stephens moderated the conversation, which covered rural healthcare sustainability and economic development strategies for rural communities.

"The Courthouse Revitalization Act has transformed our downtown with over $4 million in investment, and extending this program is critical for continued growth," said Stephens. "But our businesses face multiple challenges—from limited childcare access that's constraining our workforce to the need for additional technical training funding that meets employer demands. The importance of Overton Countians hearing directly from their legislators and engaging in substantive conversation cannot be overstated—these discussions ensure our voices influence the decisions that shape our economic future at the Capitol."

Senator Yager, who chairs the Senate Republican Caucus, and Representative Butler, Vice-Chair of the House Transportation Committee, provided legislative insights before engaging with attendees during a social hour.

The strong turnout reflected the business community's active engagement with state policy affecting local economic development. The Chamber represents nearly 300 businesses and organizations committed to promoting growth and prosperity in Overton County.
